Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Asian party mix

    • margiebh on July 30, 2019

      p. 347 ; very good

  • Chiles rellenos casserole

  • Irish bread pudding with caramel-whiskey sauce

    • ashallen on November 27, 2019

A delicious and not-too-heavy bread pudding, though it'd be easy to make it richer by replacing some of the milk with cream, if desired. I usually use golden raisins - their flavor seems to go with the other ingredients better than that of dark raisins. Good with or without the caramel-whiskey sauce.

  • Linguine with clam sauce

    • Daltman on January 31, 2022

I modified using what I had: 1 10oz can of whole clams and 1 14oz can of diced tomatoes, otherwise as written. It was a quick, simple and tasty recipe.

  • Mahi-mahi with balsamic-wine sauce

    • Daltman on January 21, 2026

  • Meat-and-potato-stuffed peppers

    • VegasCook37 on September 10, 2025

I’ve been making this since probably 2002. Simple, easy, minimal ingredients. Comfort food to me and I usually have all things on hand. I use more hot sauce. Could use any type of “sausage”. Made sure to use the “cubed” potatoes O’Brian. Now I need to try the other variations in the same article after all these years.

  • Monkey bars

    • ashallen on September 11, 2019

This is a short, moist cake - basically like muffins in cake form. Texture is relatively light for a banana quick bread. Nice combination of flavors from the bananas, raisins, brown sugar, and rum.

  • Pork chops in mustard sauce

    • ashallen on November 05, 2019

This was a tasty recipe. It makes a lot of tangy, sweet sauce. Even though I love sweet-and-savory dishes, I actually found the sauce to be too sweet for my taste and would dial back the honey in the future.

  • Shrimp ceviche cocktail (Ceviche de camarón)

    • JKDLady on October 16, 2012

9/30/01 Good. Added 1 small red jalapeno.

  • Thai coconut-curried salmon with greens

    • ashallen on September 24, 2019

This recipe has a good, basic curry base that provides a lot of flexibility. I've made the recipe as written but have also substituted shrimp or other kinds of fish for the salmon and spinach, Swiss chard, or bok choy for the watercress and chicken stock for the clam juice. Easy to pull together, too.
