Notes about this book

  • e_ballad on May 13, 2018

Just received this for Mothers Day - an absolutely stunning book. My 4yo son & husband also kindly went to the trouble of “decorating” around the edges with colored post-it notes, indicating the pages with recipes that they liked the look of: you’d be hard-pressed to find a single page without a post-it!!!

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Vanilla buttercream

    • e_ballad on March 01, 2020

      My go-to recipe. Never fails!

  • Choconut bliss balls

    • e_ballad on August 11, 2018

Obscenely easy & utterly delicious. It would take you longer to pay at the shop counter than make these!

  • Apricot power balls

    • e_ballad on November 26, 2018

Excellent & so simple to make.

  • Banana bran muffins

    • e_ballad on August 29, 2021

I’ve tried all 3x versions of these bran muffins (pumpkin, apple, & banana). I just can’t make this recipe work. The cooking time is much longer than specified & there isn’t the light crumb of a muffin , despite minimal mixing.

  • Chocolate and zucchini muffins

    • e_ballad on October 15, 2020

When I popped these in the oven, I was really concerned about the outcome, as the batter just didn’t seem right. But I had made the grave mistake of doubting Annabel. She was never going to lead me astray! She is hands-down the most consistently on-point cookbook author & this recipe is no exception. These are beautifully textured & very moreish, plus you can almost convince yourself that they’re a health food with all of that zucchini.

  • Chia muffins

    • e_ballad on November 11, 2021

These did not work at all. There didn’t appear to be enough binding agent in the mixture, but I went with. No amount of cooking led these to form anything but inedible pucks. Perhaps there was an ingredient missing or inaccurate quantity.

  • Gluten-free snack bars

    • e_ballad on August 13, 2019

Also found in “A Free Range Life: Share the Love” as “Breakfast on the run bars” (albeit with a scaled-down quantity), these would make a great nut-free school lunch. If left out at room temperature, they did become quite soft - I wonder if freezing them would work better if used in a packed lunch.

  • Ginger loaf

    • lou_weez on October 20, 2018

This is a melt-and-mix loaf = quick and easy and lovely with a cup of tea. I made it using 2 loaf tins, so now I have one to keep and one to give away :)

  • Classic one-pot sultana cake

    • lou_weez on October 23, 2020

My sultanas were on the dry side, but once boiled, they were back to being plump and juicy. This is a great cake to have with a cup of tea. Lasts for a couple of weeks in the fridge, which makes it handy for when guests pop in.

  • Chocolate log

    • svokes on August 24, 2021

Looks fabulous but the addition of brittle while it looked great did nothing for the taste. A bit dry and disappointing

  • Hazelnut mousse cake

    • svokes on August 24, 2021

decadant celebration cake. turned out well. The kids loved it

  • Italian apple custard cake

    • svokes on August 24, 2021

Fabulous, easy not too sweet dependable recipe. Love it.
