Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Roasted cauliflower and blue cheese soup

    • aargle on August 24, 2014

Was slightly disappointed by this recipe. Soup was too thin despite having more cauliflower than the recipe specified. It was also a bit bland. It may need some onion and my blue cheese was perhaps too mild. Family demolished it though. Used chorizo instead of bacon and will repeat that as it was delicious.

  • Carrot cake for a crowd

    • aargle on September 03, 2022

Have made this cake several times and it is now my go to carrot cake - it’s very straight forward and can even be grated then mixed in the food processor which I have just tried for the first time very successfully. I halve the frosting as I think a half quantity is plenty. It’s great for a birthday cake as it’s a lovely big cake which cuts beautifully.

  • Beef pho

    • aargle on April 15, 2015

This was very tasty and quick to make. Great for weeknight meals. Definite repeat.

  • One-pot chocolate and raspberry cupcakes

    • GardenerKaren on July 02, 2016

Lovely light chocolate cupcakes but I'd like more raspberry.

  • Spiced fruit loaf

    • DulcieD on September 14, 2013

Best eaten the next day as suggested in the recipe

  • Spiced chickpeas and haloumi

    • Lizzzzy on December 12, 2016

Delicious and simple vegetarian one pot meal

    • KaylaMarie on October 08, 2018

Very good recipe to make as a quick and delicious meal. I didn't have spinach, so I used beetroot leaves.

  • Thai-style tofu fried rice

    • e_ballad on August 20, 2016

Ummm, you'd need to be a sumo wrestler to be able to eat this between two people. We had two massive portions & one kidlet portion, with enough leftover for another THREE large portions. Liked this fried rice, didn't love it. Will probably incorporate the marinated tofu component into my Mum's recipe for fried rice though. Sorry Annabel, we were having an off day with your recipes today!

  • Pan-fried fish with speedy red pepper aioli

    • e_ballad on December 12, 2017

This is a super-speedy midweek meal. The red pepper aioli was great, though entirely dependent on the quality of your store bought mayo. This will be on high rotation.

  • Slow-baked pork and apricots

    • e_ballad on October 27, 2016

This was brilliant. So tasty & a doddle to make. Would probably work really well in a slow-cooker too.

  • Mini chicken tortilla cups

    • e_ballad on December 23, 2016

A pre-Christmas disaster with the freezer malfunctioning led to this impromptu lunch to use up some partially defrosted chicken mince. And it was fantastic. Used sweet chilli sauce instead of chilli powder & threw in some grated zucchini & carrot (primarily to make more fridge space!). Incredibly quick & tasty.

  • Lemon coconut cake

    • holdentogether on March 18, 2016

This is such a fabulous recipe, it's a big cake and everyone loves it. This one is a winner!

  • The ultimate beef fillet

    • lou_weez on February 11, 2017

The first time I cooked this I followed the instructions only to be left with meat that was very raw. I like rare, but this was too rare for me. I found 35minutes for the first cook and 12 minutes for the second cook to be more to our liking. This is a delicious, $$$ and very easy meal.
