Mellow yellow
March 22, 2025 by DarcieOne color is dominating the trends in 2025, showing up on everything from KitchenAid mixers to clothing: butter yellow. Although Pantone chose a dark, brooding color for its 2025 Color of the Year (Mocha, which people likened it to, well, you can guess), butter has proved to be much more popular. Eater’s Franky Knapp explores the color, bringing us several products (mostly food-related) that feature this cheerful hue.

First up is the afore-mentioned KitchenAid mixer, which as you can see is gorgeous. I wish KA would come out with some kind of color wrap we could use to swap out looks on our mixers, because I could never bring myself to buy a new mixer just because I loved the color. The second item that caught my eye is a phone case that is marked like a stick of butter. Leaning strong into the butter theme is a 24k gold butter necklace and a handbag that – you guessed it – looks like a stick of butter. Greenpan is offering a cookware set in what it calls Sunrise yellow, but it definitely leans toward butter in its hue.
Why is this color capturing everyone’s heart? KitchenAid says that people “connect a buttery yellow color with comforting homemade meals,” and studies have shown that yellow tones “tend to elicit positive emotional responses” from people. I can’t disagree with either of these propositions since I painted my dining room a buttery yellow a few years ago and still love it. Long live butter yellow.
