Prue Leith is leaving GBBO

Dame Prue Leith announced today that she is leaving the Great British Bake Off. You can read her announcement below, where she said she feels “very lucky to have been a part of [the GBBO].” She took over after Mary Berry left the program, taking on hosting duties in 2017 and continuing to co-host with Paul Hollywood since that time.

Back in March of 2024, there were rumors that the GBBO team was eyeing possible replacements for Leith after she stepped back from some of the specialty Bake Off shows. Names that were floated included Nadiya Hussain and Nigella Lawson. Channel 4, which hosts the show run by Love Productions, has not mentioned anything about a possible replacement.

Although I will miss her bold jewelry and penchant for boozy flavors, I don’t blame Leith for stepping back. As she mentioned, she is 86 and deserves to have relaxing summers in her garden. Let’s hope that Love Productions finds a replacement who will continue to captivate and engage viewers.

Update: It has been announced that Nigella Lawson will take Prue’s role as judge.

Will miss Prue! Are they really thinking of Nigella?! Would love to see her on tv again. Wish someone would stream some of her old cooking shows again. Nadiya would be good too!

To be honest I was thinking that after 15? years they’d maybe take Prue stepping down as a good point to pause the show….. I’m guessing after Nigella’s appointment they felt that there was too much money at stake to do that!
