  • Fast-lane salmon

    • rebecca1july on November 08, 2025

This is a lovely, easy dish that looks fantastic and tastes absolutely delicious. Highly recommend giving it a try

  • Roast fillet of pork with cranberry and Madeira gravy

    • rebecca1july on November 08, 2025

This is another dish you’ll absolutely love — it’s fantastic for a dinner party, and the best part is you can prepare it ahead of time.

  • The very best apple dessert cake

    • danibattle on May 23, 2017

One of my family fave recipes - in constant rotation at my house! Equally good with fresh or stored apples, and a great last minute dessert option ( other than the long cooking time ) for a dinner party or a snack cake for tea with friends!

    • Pamsy on June 01, 2024

Excellent, same cake as the Strawberry Dessert Cake.

    • rebecca1july on November 08, 2025

This is a lovely recipe — I love making it every year. It always turns out really well and actually gets even better after a few days. It stays so moist and delicious

  • Christmas cake bites

    • tracy_8uvmla on April 28, 2026

So easy to make if you want you can change the flour to gluten free flour you can’t taste the difference

  • Classic Victorian Christmas cake

    • tracy_8uvmla on April 28, 2026

I make this cake 6 months in advance. Just keep adding sherry to the cake each month

  • Mincemeat loaf cakes

    • Foodycat on June 06, 2022

Not very interesting to eat. A pleasant enough everyday sort of cake to have with a cup of tea, but I would only give this as a gift to someone I didn't much like and I don't bake for people I don't much like. I'll make it again if I have some leftover mincemeat at some point, but I will combine the mixture and make 1 2lb loaf cake and adjust the time, instead of 2 1lb loaves.

  • Steak and kidney pie with Port and pickled walnuts

    • Pamsy on October 08, 2024

I only cooked the meat element, did not carry on to make the pie. Used skirt from Willgress, 5cm cubed. Added a couple of celery stalks but omitted walnuts. The long slow cooking gives really tender meat. As Mary says, there's a lot of free liquid which is a bonus. I drained off 400mls and froze to have with a future joint of roast beef. Good entertaining recipe.

  • Highland pheasant casserole with apples

    • HighlandCook on May 03, 2026

This was Lovely. I added some halved button mushrooms and used chicken stock. This is a great way of cooking pheasant breasts and keeping them moist. A winner.
