Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Pasta with fresh tomato and rocket sauce

    • Breadcrumbs on June 18, 2011

      p. 22 - The first arugula, basil and tomatoes of the season inspired the choice of this recipe for our menu. The fact that, as Donna Hay promises, this dish comes together in under 10 mins added to its appeal on a warm summer evening. We like to have garlic w these ingredients so I quickly sauteed some thinly sliced garlic in the olive oil before adding the onion for this recipe and giving that a quick saute prior to adding the remaining ingredients and, the pasta. Whereas the arugula in the cookbook's photo is raw, mine wilted and released some of its nutty flavours. Delicious! We'll definitely have this again. Love early arugula as it lacks all the bitterness that develops later in the year. Photos here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/790100#6616060

I did not have too many expectations for this recipe, since I was just looking for something to use up some leftover ricotta and my garden bounty of tomatoes and arugula. Boy, was I wrong! This is the perfect summer pasta dish for when you don't want to spend lots of time in a hot kitchen! The mustardy arugula and the sweet tomatoes where a perfect combination, complemented by the creaminess of the ricotta. Loved it!

  • Pasta with smoked salmon and dill sauce

    • aargle on December 28, 2016

This was a lovely light summery meal perfect after all the heavy Christmas food. I served it with a rocket salad.

    • wester on September 03, 2010

This really does take less than 10 minutes, like it says. A fresh summery pasta. It looks good as well, with its different shades of pink and green.

  • Asparagus with tofu and balsamic butter

    • Three_Quarters on September 20, 2013

Classic Donna Hay -- super simple recipe that comes together deliciously. I served it over whole wheat couscous to soak up the sauce.

  • Grilled honey mustard and smoked ham flatbreads

    • Three_Quarters on August 26, 2013

I actually made this as a pizza instead of a sandwich. Same flavors, really tasty! I used a whole grain mustard and prosciutto.

  • Crisp pancetta baked pork fillet

    • bernalgirl on February 07, 2012

Very easy, delicious, quick enough for a weeknight and a nice dish for entertaining.

    • Ninna on September 01, 2011

A wonderfully easy recipe for entertaining - just make sure the pork fillets (tenderloins) are not too close together or they will take too long to cook. I have been making this recipe for years, it has become one of my favourites to make for guests.

  • Salt and five spice chicken

    • Three_Quarters on October 28, 2013

This took longer to cook than the recipe implied (more like 30 minutes) but the flavor was fantastic.

  • Coconut and salmon laksa

    • bernalgirl on September 01, 2020

Easy, delicious, adjust flavors with fish sauce, lime, and cane sugar

  • Chicken simmered in soy and star anise

    • wester on July 03, 2011

Much too salty, and the anise flavor was very faint. Also the cooking time given was too short. I do think this recipe has potential, but it didn't realize here.

  • Pasta with rocket and blue cheese

    • mmejosephine on June 18, 2011

Double the walnut sauce and add some walnut oil. Do not add vinegar to sauce until just before using.

  • Hokkien noodles with sesame chicken

    • wester on August 24, 2017

This was very good, if slightly salty (without added salt). The chicken did not brown even after 10 minutes, so I just added all the other ingredients anyway, to no ill effect. Maybe a bit more spinach next time?

  • Chicken baked in olives, lemon and capers

    • Breadcrumbs on April 27, 2010

      p.94 - 2 b/s chx breasts

    • Breadcrumbs on August 11, 2015

      p. 94 - I’m in heaven when tomatoes are in abundance and I’m simply unable to resist them when I see them at markets and farm stands. That’s likely why I have about 20lbs of tomatoes in the house at the moment. You name a variety; I likely have some in a bowl on my counter!! I loved this recipe for its use of tomatoes and its simplicity; it’s absolutely perfect for a weeknight dinner. I served this as is for me. For mr bc, I steamed some just dug (by a farmer, not me!) fingerlings from our local farm stand and served these alongside. This would be fabulous over rice or, with some crusty bread to mop up all the delicious juices. This is a “must make” IMHO. I made one small adaptation by adding some crushed garlic to the mix. Delicious, foolproof. The cherry tomatoes make a lovely sauce that is great on w/w couscous. This dish is a perfect quick meal for entertaining guests with the addition of thawed frozen artichoke hearts. All you need is couscous and a green salad, done!

    • czechmate on December 03, 2012

Favorite for family or parties. Fast, delicious, healthy. Anyone can do this
