Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Spiced autumn soup

  • Avocado with tomatoes and mint

    • elizabeth_vre4b3 on April 05, 2026

Everyone loves this recipe which was so easy to make. The dressing is fanatastic

    • elizabeth_vre4b3 on April 05, 2026

So delicious - everyone loved it . Quite easy too

  • Spiced fish with coconut

    • TinkerTaylor on February 14, 2026

Delicious! I added a bag of spinach and an extra squeeze of lime, served with rice.

  • Game pie with fennel and carrots

    • chas388951 on January 28, 2026

Made this many times but today used venison rather than mixed game with great result

  • Steak Diane

  • Greek roast lamb

    • Juleslovesgoldies on May 27, 2026

So tasty, lovely way to cook lamb, the herbs really add to the flavour.

  • Shoulder of lamb with lemon and olives

    • elizabeth_vre4b3 on April 05, 2026

Easter lunch - could not find shoulder so used leg of lamb. The leg did not put off a lot of juices so braise was burned

  • Moussaka

    • anya_sf on April 12, 2026

9/14/24 (note copied from incorrect edition of this book) I won't rate this since I made numerous changes, but the end result was delicious. I made 1/2 recipe, but with 1 lb lamb (to use the package), draining the fat after browning. Used crushed tomatoes instead of diced, and tomato paste thinned with water instead of puree. Added some dried mint, oregano, allspice, and cinnamon to the sauce. Roasted the eggplant in the oven instead of blanching and frying. Used half the butter in the topping and supplemented the creme fraiche (had some but not enough) with heavy cream and more milk; used a whole egg.

  • Pork with chilli and coconut

    • Pamsy on January 03, 2025

This was tasty and quicker than a curry. I omitted the tomatoes (Sian) and used coconut milk instead of creamed coconut, I didn't have time to marinate for 2 hours but 30 mins seemed fine. Definitely worth repeating.

  • Pork steaks with mixed peppercorns

    • Juleslovesgoldies on January 31, 2026

Absolutely delicious! Will definitely make again.

  • Quick nasi goreng

    • Pamsy on May 30, 2026

See Nasi Goreng x 3 Variations in my Personal Recipes. Excellent.

  • Vegetarian nasi goreng

    • Pamsy on May 30, 2026

See Nasi Goreng x 3 in my Personal Recipes. Excellent.

  • Chicken nasi goreng

    • Pamsy on May 30, 2026

See Nasi Goreng x 3 Variations in my Personal Recipes. Excellent.

  • Multi-grain loaf

    • anya_sf on April 12, 2026

10/30/23 (note copied from incorrect edition of this book) - A good, healthy sandwich bread. Rolled oats worked in place of wheat flakes. The second rise took longer than the stated 20-30 min.

  • Potato bread

    • anya_sf on April 12, 2026

3/19/24 (note copied from incorrect edition of this book) - I wasn't sure if the mashed potatoes were meant to be leftovers (with milk, butter, s+p), but that's what I used and the bread turned out well. As Mary notes, the loaves are small; next time I'd make one large loaf from 3/4 recipe. The crumb was slightly open, texture somewhat spongy but firm enough to slice neatly - great toasted for breakfast sandwiches.

  • Classic apple crumble

    • Pamsy on May 30, 2026

Simple, tasty and easy. Used apples from Sandringham.

  • Magic lemon pudding

    • jed_zpb1h3 on May 14, 2026

Good, but not a showstopper by any means, nor is it trying to be.

  • Floating islands

    • Pamsy on May 30, 2026

Reduced ingredients by a third and made 8 meringues. Excellent cooking method, better and easier than poaching. Definitely worth repeating.

  • Scotch mist

    • Pamsy on May 30, 2026

This would be good for Burns Night, Hogmanay, New Year's Day. Anything Scottish!!

  • Iced lime traybake

    • Pamsy on May 30, 2026

Feb 2019. Good lime flavour, definitely needs the icing. Seemed slightly dry, perhaps use a Victoria Sponge recipe?

  • Welsh cakes

    • anya_sf on April 12, 2026

10/29/23 (note copied from incorrect edition of this book) - These were excellent - tender, lightly sweetened and spiced, loaded with currants. I was able to cook all of them on my griddle at once, but they were fairly close together, which made turning them rather tricky.
