Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Portuguese potato kale soup (Caldo verde)

    • Mrymcd on November 21, 2025

Easy to make. I had to add some more water in the last 15 minutes (since the bubbling was spurting out of the pot) and added a bit of Better than Bullion stock. I wondered why blanch the Kale first and decided that it would likely make your soup green if you didn’t. This made a nice weeknight meal. I subbed 4 slices of crisply cooked bacon for the ham hock as I didn’t have one.

  • Shepherd's pie

    • PanNan on April 20, 2020

Excellent flavor. Could really taste the homemade tomato sauce. It’s worth the extra time to make it. A family favorite.
