Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Southern cornbread

    • SilverSage on January 06, 2011

Perfect cornbread! Great crust, moist texture, very corny. I always use stone ground cornmeal instead of the fussy toasting step for regular cornmeal.

  • Eggplant Parmesan

    • sandbox on November 19, 2013

Still time consuming to make, but turned out super delicious. Maybe not a great weeknight meal.

Publishers Text

America's Test Kitchen Live! brings you into our test kitchen as the cast and crew prepare a year's worth of foolproof recipes. A companion to the 2005 season, this book also includes all the tastings and equipment ratings covered on the show. Step behind the scenes as they prepare everything from authentic Texas-style ribs and quick pan-seared shrimp to the ultimate sticky buns and the best-ever pumpkin cheesecake. From soup (Chicken Noodle and Hearty Lentil to nuts (Spiced Pecans with Rum Glaze), it's all here.

INSIDE YOU'LL FIND . . .

  • Foolproof Recipes - Find a year's worth of recipes, organized around the themes of each show (like Family Favorites and New Flavors from the Grill), so you can be sure to follow along at home.

  • Honest Tastings - Learn all the details from their ratings of ingredients, everything from chicken cutlets and supermarket coffee to mail-order bacon and even bottled water.

  • Detailed Equipment Ratings - Discover which rotisserie oven is best or whether that expensive knife is really worth it. Don't waste money on products that don't work.

  • Cooking Questions Answered - A new Q&A feature will help make you a better cook. Learn how to prevent pasta from sticking to the pot as well as when to sift flour and when you skip this step.

  • Helpful Kitchen Science - Understand how a flambé works, why some cheeses melt better than others, and when you should salt meat during the cooking process.
