Notes about Recipes in this book

  • 100 percent whole-wheat pancakes

    • rebeka_eveksv on February 19, 2026

The flavour is spot-on, really makes the whole wheat shine! Just the right amount of sweetness to be able to enjoy them plain.

  • Sweet potato soup

    • arosfd on February 01, 2021

Prefer to use organic sweet potatoes for those that will have the peels saved for the soup; the rest can be conventional if only using the inside flesh. Can easily substitute olive oil for the butter to make this vegan!

  • Red lentil soup with North African spices

    • Linda04101 on March 11, 2022

Flavorful without being too hot. Easy to make, everything in the house already.

  • Chicken and sausage gumbo

    • spacebaby on January 19, 2026

This was really good! My oven went out when cooking the flour so I had to do it in a skillet on the stove, but it still worked with a little more hands-on effort. I used Italian sausage and pablano instead of andouille and bell pepper since it’s what I had (sorry Louisiana!) but it was still great.

  • Crispy pan-fried chicken cutlets (Chicken katsu)

    • Jviney on February 02, 2024

Great recipe, huge hit with hubby and boys. Instructions led to a crispy, juicy chicken cutlet. I didn’t make either of the side sauces, just served with rice and tamari and Japanese barbecue sauce. Family asked for it to go in the rotation.

  • Best chicken Parmesan

    • jbuchman on July 24, 2022

An excellent version of this dish.

  • Skillet-roasted chicken in lemon sauce (Rao's famous lemon chicken)

  • Classic sloppy Joes

    • Tinala523 on January 23, 2021

Truly is a classic sloppy joe! Even though it has ketchup and onions, they are not the focus. Leftover-hating-hubby wanted them again the next day! For that, this recipe gets five stars.

  • Ground beef and cheese enchiladas

    • mamacrumbcake on June 08, 2020

The filling is good but the enchilada sauce is a bit one-note, heavy on the ancho but not much else. We would have preferred a looser sauce with a little bit more acidity and freshness from tomato to balance the flavor. I used the full amount of chipotle and it was not spicy at all. The filling is very kid-friendly, but I would make a different sauce in the future.

  • Beef short rib ragu

    • ida_o3s8az on May 16, 2026

      Rich, flavorful, hearty, and warm.

  • Fougasse

    • jay.moe on January 27, 2023

2 teaspoons of coarse sea salt was too salty. Next time I will use 1 - 1.5 teaspoons. Bread was done after only 16 minutes in the oven. This was very good bread. Served it with broccoli cheddar soup.

  • Chocolate sheet cake with easy chocolate frosting

    • Jviney on April 07, 2025

Made this for my son’s second grade class as a reward when they filled up their kindness challenge bucket. I didn’t get a chance to try it but I loved that it baked up with a flat top, and the teacher reported that even kids who didn’t like chocolate cake loved it.
